INGREDIENTS AND THEIR BENEFITS
1. ALOE VERA
Aloe Vera contains vitamins B, C, and E, minerals, saccharides, amino acids, anthraquinones, enzymes, lignins, saponins, and salicylic acid.
AE-anthrone, an anthraquinone derivative, present in aloe vera latex is a stimulant laxative. It helps to increase the water content in the intestines, and stimulate peristaltic contractions, which cause bowel movements. It inhibits water re-absorption by the colon from the viscera and helps get rid of constipation.
Aloe Vera is packed with several enzymes that effectively break down sugars and fats and aid digestion. It assuages hyperacidity or heartburn, ulcers and GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease). It helps boost appetite. It is known to lower gastric inflammation, enhance epithelial cell propagation, and shrink ulcer size. Aloe Vera’s polysaccharides and anthraquinones have excellent anti-ulcer properties. They are known to alleviate peptic ulcers by regulating gastric secretions.
Aloe Vera helps minimize leukocyte adherence and TNF-alpha activity, (an inflammation agent) which otherwise result in immune-system diseases such as ulcerative colitis. The antioxidant activity of aloe vera neutralizes free radicals and inhibits production of prostaglandin E2, a potent inflammatory mediator, and helps fight inflammatory bowel disease or ulcerative colitis.
Aloe Vera’s anti-inflammatory nature helps decrease soreness of stomach and intestines. It helps reduce pain, flatulence, and discomfort caused by IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) and other intestinal disorders.
DIABETES & HEART AILMENTS
Consumption of aloe vera is believed to reduce serum sugar levels in diabetic patients. Aloe Vera helps lower “bad” cholesterol or LDL and triglyceride levels and increase “good” cholesterol that helps to reduce thickening of arteries and coronary artery disease.
Vitamin C, in aloe vera, is believed to lower blood pressure, and improve blood circulation and strengthen veins and arteries. The high fiber content of aloe vera is found to reduce the frequency of angina attacks, stabilize the heart’s rhythm and showed a remarkable improvement in diabetic patients.
Aloe Vera helps to transform the body pH from acidic to alkaline that hinders the breeding of diseases. It helps to keep the body hydrated and flushes out impurities and toxins out of the system. Aloe Vera helps shield the liver against carbon tetrachloride-induced hepatotoxicity.
Oral administration of aloe vera followed by melatonin is believed to help fight metastatic cancer. Acemannan, found in aloe vera is believed to possess immune-stimulating, anti-cancer, and anti-viral properties. It helps boost the immune system by enhancing the cell capability of macrophages, which gobble up cellular debris, foreign substances, microbes, parasites, and cancer cells. It is known to stimulate the production of monokines, release nitric oxide and induce changes in cell structure and form that lead to the death of cancer cells.
Oral supplementation of aloe vera helps increase collagen content and composition of the new tissues and enhances its cross-linking capacity and thereby supports fast wound healing.
SKIN PROTECTION & ANTI-AGING
Triphala is a concoction of three fruits namely, Emblica Officinalis (Indian Gooseberry or Amalaki), Terminalia bellerica (Vibhitaka); and Terminalia chebula (Haritaki).
Triphala’s neuroprotective effects help alleviate constipation, abdominal pain, hyperacidity, flatulence and improve the amount, frequency, and consistency of the stool.
The phytochemicals such as quercetin and gallic acid in Triphala help boost the growth of health-promoting or probiotic bacteria such as bifidobacteria and lactobacillus species and suppress the harmful bacteria such as E.coli.
Triphala derived polyphenols help reduce oxidative damage and inflammation. Triphala is known to revive the diminished protein levels in the intestine and could reduce the myeloperoxidase and xanthine oxidase levels in the intestinal mucosa that cause intestinal damage.
ANTI-ULCER & ANTIOXIDANT AGENT
It exhibits strong antiulcer property. It helps reduce ulcer index, lipid peroxidation, and hydroxyl radical levels and increase catalase and superoxide dismutase levels in stress-induced gastric ulcers.
The antioxidant and anti-tumor actions of Triphala help suppress VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) induced angiogenesis and could inhibit the growth of malignant tumors. Flavonoids present in Triphala are believed to effectively reduce colitis.
Triphala is known to reduce serum total cholesterol, triglycerides and LDL, and enhance HDL levels and helps maintain a healthy lipid profile. It is also found to reverse pathological changes in the liver tissue and decrease the visceral fat. It is believed to help in weight loss and may decrease the percentage of body fat, BMI, waist circumference, and hip circumference in obese people.
It is known to reduce the absorption of glucose into the bloodstream and thereby helps to lower blood glucose levels in diabetes type 2 patients. Triphala intake is found to effectively lower the blood glucose levels in non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus patients.
Sorbitol, an active ingredient in Triphala helps lower fasting and post-lunch serum sugar levels. It is efficient in diabetes management because of its glycolytic enzyme inhibition and anti-glycation potential.
Triphala helps reduce coronary artery disease risk due to its hypolipidemic effects. It fights hypercholesterolemia, which causes thickening of the arteries.
The anti-microbial activity of Triphala is effective against pathogenic bacteria like E.coli and S. aureus. It is believed to be efficacious against antibiotic or multi-drug resistant bacteria. It suppresses the growth of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.
Triphala is found to have a potent antibacterial effect against enteric bacteria such as Staphylococcus epidermidis, S.aureus, Proteus vulgaris, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and salmonella typhi and helps combat infections occurring in the intestines. Its antifungal nature helps exerts action against Aspergillus species and inhibit fungal infections.
Triphala’s potent anti-inflammatory activity helps assuage arthritic and inflammatory effects. It could suppress the production of inflammatory mediators, reactive oxygen species, and inflammatory enzymes that promote inflammation.
Chebulagic acid in Triphala is found to suppress major enzymes such as COX and 5-LOX, which play a vital role in the propagation of inflammation and carcinogenesis. It is believed to induce apoptosis or programmed cell death in COLO-205 cells. Triphala helps relieve nephrotoxic effects by enhancing the activities of antioxidant enzymes, decreasing the intensities of lipid peroxidation, and kidney functional markers.
ANTI-NEOPLASTIC ACTIVITY (FIGHT AGAINST CANCER)
Triphala is found to be a potent anti-neoplastic agent. It helps avert and overcome cancer without producing any harmful side effects.
The phenolic compounds such as gallic acid in Triphala inhibit the growth of cancer cells. Triphala is known to be cytotoxic on many cancer cell-lines includes breast, prostate, colon, and pancreas. The phenolic compounds in Triphala help inhibit human cancer stem cell colony formation and induce p53-independent apoptosis or programmed cell death.
Triphala helps reduce the risk of DNA damage, which often is the starting phase in carcinogenesis. It is known to thwarts genetic mutations induced by both chemical and radiation-induced damage.
